Beautiful collection of tiles spread across three floors of this building. Some of these tiles are indigenous to Uruguay and others imported to build the collection. I particularly liked the Portuguese tiles (Room 17), some dating back to the 16th Century. The museum is free to visit. I was greeted by a very friendly lady who realised I was English and spoke to me about her Scottish mother. She wanted one day to visit her maternal ancestral home back to Edinburgh.

The entrance is free, so that's a plus. On the ground floor there are some traditional azulejos, usually from Seville or other Spanish cities. They have some information in Spanish and some of the rooms have basic information in English and Portuguese as well. On the first floor there are some more recent or modern azulejos, also from Montevideo and other towns. You can expect to spend some 30 minutes in the museum
