Walk into cells through iron-grate doors, see photographs and exhibits of notable prisoners, and take in views of the nearby river from the guard tower of Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park. Now a museum, the territory's first prison was built in 1876 by individuals who became its first inmates. Watch a video presentation to learn about the types of prisoners held here, such as a Mexican revolutionary, a female bandit, and a polygamist. You can walk around the park outside and picnic designated areas. Great visit. Outside display buildings with the exception of the museum. Good history of the prison described together with who the inmates were. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Excellent history lesson! Loved following the placards to learn the history. Gentleman at ticket area in gift shop was engaging, friendly and knowledgeable. The museum had plenty of photos and historical pieces. Fun interactive area to take your mug shot. Nice 360° view from the guard tower. You could visit in an hour but we lingered, saw and read everything at an easy pace. Thank you Yuma for keeping this piece of history restored for travelers like us to enjoy. Fair price for admission.

Very cool historical location. The self guided your was sufficient to understand the details of what is left of the prison. View from the guard tower/overlook was very nice and a great photo op. They have discounts for seniors and veterans.
