South Union today is more than just a memory. It is a place to visit and learn firsthand about the Shaker way of life. Several of the original buildings have been restored and now house a fine museum of Shaker folklife and material culture, a unique gift shop, and overnight lodgings.

  • A nice little spot with lots of interesting history told through its buildings, artifacts, and stories. Very reasonably priced considering you can spend hours there, and they have a great gift shop...

  • Absolutely beautiful setting in the rolling green fields of rural Kentucky! Visitor Center was nice with a welcoming staff. We watched a movie of the Shaker Village and then did the self guided tour....  more

  • This museum is simply a GEM! We have to go back and finish the tour. Ran out of time, because there is SO much to see and learn. Staff are super knowledgeable and full of southern charm
  • My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Shaker Tavern on 11/12/2022, and we couldn’t have picked a better venue! It was outstandingly beautiful and had every resource we could possibly need — a great kitchen for the caterer, rooms to get ready in, and all the chairs and tables we needed. Sally Rogers, SUSV’s curator, coordinated our wedding, and she was so helpful and accommodating. She was always available to help at any time, and she made sure our wedding day went off without a hitch!
