Today a living museum, Hancock Shaker Village was established as a Shaker community in 1791. Shakers lived in what was called the "City of Peace" until 1960. The 304 hectare (750 acre) property has retained 20 of its historical buildings, which are filled with authentic Shaker artifacts. The working farm and craft demonstrations, such as weaving and woodworking, provide an insight into the daily routines of a Shaker village. Feel free to approach costumed staff with questions or to learn more about the Shaker principles, such as pacifism, communal living, celibacy, and gender equality. You can grab a bite to eat at The Village Harvest cafe, which also offers takeout picnics. Hike the 1.6 km (1 mi) Farm and Forest trail if time allows. We went to see the Christmas light show. It's a really special experience and I recommend it for anyone. It will really get you in the holiday spirit.

Very nice displays about Shaker history made more salient by the docents who are available to give tours of the buildings and grounds.

A lot of historical information. The grounds are beautiful and I loved that I had the opportunity to explore on my own but have the choice to join informational tours if I chose. Definitely recommend this place for a visit and recommend exploring the buildings across the street (although I didn't get there). Would also recommend about 2 hours to explore. I bought a great little sandwich and cherry chocolate scone at the little cafe on site. Very fresh and delicious. Great for all ages.

A great place to learn about this historic group from their beginning, their rise in popularity and their current existence. The 750 acres are a working community and staff us knowledgeable and very pleasant. A fun and educational visit. We had a nice lunch sitting outside st the cafe. Good for all ages.
