Photo Antiquities Museum of Photographic History offers a history lesson on photography. The Museum, designed in the Victorian style with period music playing in the background, lends to the feeling of being in another era, enhancing the journey into the past.
Photo Antiquities is dedicated to the preservation, presentation and education of the history of photography. The museum's collection includes images, cameras and accessories that capture the earliest days of photography. Follow the history of photography with a guided tour, from the Daguerreotype c. 1839 (the first commercially viable photographic image produced onto a silver coated copper plate) to present day digital photography.
The photographs on this site are in the Photo Antiquities Museum of Photographic History's archival collection.
Our exhibits change monthly and we have African American, Civil War, Native American and Pittsburgh/Allegheny City Images.
From Out of the Past...
We offer the region's finest display of vintage photographs, photographic viewing devices, and antique cameras. Designed in the Victorian style, Photo Antiquities preserves and exhibits the history of photography from 1839 to 1939. Examples of our collections include The Civil War, Native Americans, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the United States, Asia, and Europe.
We hope you become a new friend of ours and we look forward to meeting you.
Remember, together we can continue to build a visionary organization dedicated to the history of photography for the purpose of preserving the past, while educating present and future generations.
