Duquesne Incline, Pittsburgh

Tramway · Transportation
A funicular that scales Mount Washington, Duquesne Incline was built to carry cargo up the mountain. In the late 19th century, the tram began hauling passengers, and it still does today, transporting locals to work as well as visitors. The line has been completely renovated, with the paint scraped off to reveal the original woodwork. The lower station is in Pittsburgh's South Side neighborhood and has also been renovated to reveal the original facade. The attraction is considered an icon of Pittsburgh because it offers views of the city's downtown Golden Triangle and because it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
