Approximately 10,000 specimens make up the exhibits at Carnegie Museum of Natural History, including mounted dinosaur skeletons, mummies, gems and minerals, and wildlife habitats. Altogether 22 million items are under the museum's care, and exhibits are occasionally rotated. See the world's first tyrannosaurus rex skeleton and the only fossils of a juvenile brontosaurus known to man. You'll follow the evolution of mammals from 65 million years ago through the ice age to the present day. Take a look inside dioramas of forests with wildlife and villages featuring the evolution of human culture. Numerous children's activities, such as bone digging and discovery camps, make it a good fit for any age. Carnegie Museum of Natural History reviews
I enjoyed seeing art from Monet, van Gough and other impressionist. It's nice that the photography is permitted. Impressive dinosaur exhibit too. Price is only $10 after 3pm. more »
This is a huge museum (2 floors) including dinosaur exhibits, natural history exhibits, african wildlife exhibits, minerals/gems exhibits, cenozoic era mammal exhibits, north american wildlife... more »
Expansive exhibits, friendly staff, somewhat reasonably admission fee. Admission is $18 per person but allows access to multiple museums. The exhibits were very interesting, with gemstones, dinosaurs, Greek sculptures, Egyptian and American Indian artifacts. The natural history section was a bit sad with all the taxidermy animals. Museum didn’t flow very well, without the map you’d be lost entirely, as I was.
Wonderful museum! Plenty to see - way too much to take in in one day. The lower level dinosaur exhibit was pretty crowded and there were a lot of kids. The architecture hall, as well as the second and third floors were significantly quieter and less crowded. I recommend going on a Saturday - it seemed like there were fewer people the later it was in the day.
