Amazing overview of world music via the instruments used to make it. The site is large, the museum spacious and modern. The overall layout is well designed, by area, by genre, by instrument type...

This is a wonderful place, not just for musical instruments, but also history and geography and cultures from around the world. Each country display has a map where the country is located, and instruments (and costume /dress) used in that location. The headphones will link to the videos playing on that display screen, which show a few clips of the music in that region, using the instruments you see on display. There are also displays of musical instrument manufacturers, and displays of each kind of instrument. There is a coffee shop and an outdoor area where there was a live performance that day. The outdoor area is gorgeous, with covered tables, shaded trees areas, water features and landscaping. You are not permitted to carry water or any food or drink through the museum. I had to check my water bottle at the front. Everyone working was very kind, friendly, and helpful! One lady told me that they have live performances most nights of the week. It is more affordable to buy the membership if you plan on going more than once - which would be great to see more! There is so much here, I had to miss areas since I was only there for 2.5 hours. Overall wonderful place with a wonderful atmosphere!
Very diverse and interesting displays of musical instruments from around the world, including some rare old instruments. For example, one gallery highlights some individual musicians and bands and their instruments. Another gallery exhibits instruments and music from various countries and regions. And there are more galleries. The new building is attractive and contains extensive exhibits and a cafe/coffee shop. Tours can be self-guided with a device with earphones that picks up music selections and commentaries. Staff is helpful. We opted for the standard admission tickets, plus an added fee to see the special exhibit of "Treasures." In all, extremely worthwhile to see.
