Desert Botanical Garden covers an area of 57 hectares (140 acres) and shelters more than 21,000 plants, including 139 rare and endangered species. Nearly a third of the garden's plant collection is native to this desert area, especially noted for its richness in agave and cacti species. The garden protects vegetation from less extreme climates under its "shadehouses," which contain vast collections of Australian, South American, and Californian plants. As you walk through the garden, try to spot the differences between the mesquite bosque, semi-desert grassland, and upland chaparral ecosystems. Check online for current events and special exhibits, and choose a guided tour suitable to your interests and time constraints. We went on a crowded night with multiple parties and receptions. There was still plenty of room and great things to see. What a gorgeous venue with loads of information on native plants. A must...

The Chihuly Exhibit added so much to this garden. The Butterfly section was cool. Nice, easy trails take you to different areas.

Was one of the highlights on our trip to Scottsdale. The only negative is holy cow is it hot out and there are a lot of options to cool down. The garden is set up with 4-5 little loop trails off the main trail and easily doable in an hour or two. The vending machines could have been more plentiful and perhaps an ice cream stand or something to help cool off. A few misters on the trail would be amazing but I can’t blame them for desert heat, just be prepared for it. Would definitely go back.
We loved this place. The people were friendly and helpful. This place is open enough that it can safely accommodate large crowds. Masks are required, which gives us peace of mind during this pandemic. Great place to visit. Visit in the early the morning to avoid the heat. Who thought that cacti and succulents could be so beautiful!
