The T. T. Wentworth Jr. Florida State Museum is a museum of history located at 330 Jefferson Street in the Plaza Ferdinand VII in Pensacola, Florida. It is part of the Historic Pensacola Village museum complex. The building, reminiscent of the Alamo mission style, was built in 1907 as the Pensacola City Hall and served as such until 1985 when the present city hall was built at 180 Governmental Center, also known as 222 West Main Street. In 1989, the building was listed as the Pensacola City Hall in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press.HistoryWentworth opened his first museum as a roadside stand in the suburb of Ensley in 1957, and continued to collect items of interest. His curiosity spanned a wide range of materials. In the 1980s, Wentworth said he would donate his entire collection to the city if it provided a permanent location in Pensacola. A state grant was signed by Governor Bob Martinez to enable the city to renovate the former city hall for this purpose, as the city had completed a new facility in 1985.The museum was officially opened in 1988. One floor is dedicated to Wentworth's eccentric collections, which include a mummified cat, among other items. The other two floors illustrate and interpret life in the Florida Panhandle over the centuries; some of the artifacts are from Wentworth's collection. The other floors house a science interactive museum for children.

  • Put the Museum of History in Pensacola on your "Must-See" List and don't miss it. I spent most of my time on the second floor just mesmerized by the Trader Jon's exhibit. What a fun place!

  • I like the design of museum and how inviting it is as you walk up. It’s not cluttered and it’s well organized. There is a nice store to purchase souvenirs and other items. I like that the way the history is displayed and I loved the exhibit on 3rd floor; Black Politicians During Reconstruction. I appreciate this display because it’s a very important part of US history. I also LOVE the Trader Jon’s display. It’s set up as his restaurant. He was a very interesting man and they think he had the most rides with Blue Angels as a civilian. I think he didn’t charge for anything but traded with those in military. And he treated all the same regardless of rank. Seems like a great man! I highly recommended visiting this museum if in the area. Don’t forget that you purchase a $10 ticket at the Museum of Art and can visit all museums. It last 7 days. The ticket on Sunday is half price because only 3 museums are open; Children, Art and History. But only good for that one day! You have to go see what this city had to offer!
  • Excellent location to visit. History of every generation...all packed into 1 place. The Building alone is absolutely stunning. Beautiful gardens and stunning displays of History. A definite win for people to pass your day inside when the weather outside is too extreme. Lots to see and enjoy. Love ... Love the passion that goes into preserving the History of One's world
