St Joseph's Chapel Catholic Memorial at Ground Zero, New York City

Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Pay your respects to the thousands of lives lost to terrorism at St Joseph's Chapel Catholic Memorial at Ground Zero. Long artificial waterfalls drop into two reflecting pools, surrounded by bronze panels inscribed with the names of those who perished. Designed by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, the memorial honors not only the 3,000 people killed in the attacks of September 11, 2001, but also six persons who lost their lives in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. The pools sit exactly in the place where the Twin Towers once stood. Note the healthy limbs of a pear tree that survived the attack, stretching victoriously from its recovered gnarled trunk.
