Neue Galerie, New York City

4.2
Neue Galerie houses 20th-century German and Austrian art and design. In an old mansion on Fifth Avenue, two gallery floors display art from 1900s Vienna, and German art across various movements of the early 20th century. The Vienna collection explores the relationship between the fine arts and the decorative arts, with works by artists like Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann, and Adolf Loos. In the collection of German art, discover movements such as the Blaue Reiter and its circle, the Brucke, and the Bauhaus. Two close friends, Serge Sabarsky and Ronald S. Lauder, created the concept for the museum. Unfortunately, Sabarsky died before the museum was realized, but Lauder continued with the creation of the museum in memory of his friend. • Attended a 3:30 tour offered Friday to Monday. Seemed popular and provided history of the Adele and Weimar portraits. Otherwise, short visit and lacked history behind the artifacts. Very kind and welcoming admissions staff. No bottled water or photos except first floor.
  • I went to see the Klimt exhibit. They wouldn't allow photography in the Museum so I had to settle for a duplicate of the Adele painting they kept for the museums patrons to photograph. Stopped in the Cafe for some coffee and cake beore leaving. Very good
