Birdland, New York City

4.5
Birdland is a jazz club started in New York City on December 15, 1949. The original Birdland, which was located at 1678 Broadway, just north of West 52nd Street in Manhattan, was closed in 1965 due to increased rents, but it re-opened for one night in 1979. A revival began in 1986 with the opening of the second nightclub by the same name that is now located in Manhattan's Theater District, not far from the original nightclub's location. The current location is in the same building as the previous New York Observer headquarters.

  • Absolutely amazing. Food? Amazing! Drinks? Amazing! Customer service? Amazing! We were in the lower level having an outstanding time with Troy Roberts, but if you get the chance to visit upstairs I highly recommend you do. Everything here is top notch, the decor is simply elegant but doesn't distract from the real reason for coming: the great live jazz! The bar offers more than you'd think in a smaller sized venue, and the food was dynamite! You have to take the stairs because there's no elevator or escalator, so be aware, but they are carpeted and clean. If we are ever in New York again we'll definitely be hitting up The Birdland Jazz Club again!
  • 5 stars. AMAZING night, saw Ron Carter Trio - fantastic! Get there early so you can sit in the front row or second row one level up. Wonderful venu and very intimate. Rich in history and will for sure be back. We had dinner before but had appetizers which were good. Staff is very attentive and quick.
