Spring Mill State Park is a 1,358-acre (5 km2) state park in the state of Indiana. The park is located to the south of Bloomington, about 3 miles (5 km) east of the city of Mitchell on Indiana Highway 60. It contains a settler's village, the Gus Grissom Memorial (with the accompanying Gemini 3 space capsule), a nature's center, and campgrounds.Plan to visit Spring Mill State Park and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Mitchell attractions using our Mitchell itinerary maker tool.
The park is located on the Mitchell Karst Plain, which allowed the park's caves and sinkholes to form in the limestone. The caves include Bronson Cave, Twin Caves, Shawnee Cave (Donaldson Cave), Hamer Cave, and others. A boat tour of Twin Caves is run by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, which travels about 500 feet (150 m) into the cave.
A portion of the park is virgin timber, protected in the Donaldson Woods Nature Preserve. The Mitchell Karst Plain Nature Preserve is notable for its large number of sinkholes, more than 1000 per square mile. Many of the park's features were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, including the Spring Mill Inn, Spring Mill Lake, and most of the trails.

Spring Mill has become a favorite get away spot for my wife and I. Though about an hour's drive from Louisville metro we usually figure out an excuse to get there a couple of times or more each... more »
Beautiful place..stayed in the hotel, as did other family members,in the pet friendly area. Our room was fine but my father in laws room had no working air conditioning, and no working dehumidifier, my sister in laws room was the same. They had to go out and buy fans to even be remotely comfortable. Enjoyed hiking through the woods, and the spring mill village. The park itself is a 5 star experience for me, the hotel, was a 2 star experience. So I would say definitely visit the park, try to find somewhere else to stay.
Very fun. The hiking trails are beautiful and each are different levels. Some harder than others. Pioneer village is amazing. Getting to talk through the small village businesses and homes is a one of a kind experience. We love it here.
