Tour opulent Pabst Mansion to discover what life looked like from the top during the Gilded Age. Capt. Frederick Pabst, the founder of Pabst Brewing Co., built this 37-room, 14-fireplace palace between 1890 and 92. As you tour the mansion, which is now a museum, you can see large paintings that Capt. Pabst hung on the walls, as well as highly detailed and embellished furnishings that adorn many rooms. Take a general-admission tour to see the mansion's highlights, or consider pre-booking a grand tour for more thorough exploration of the home. Pabst Mansion reviews
There is free parking behind the building. To get to the entrance, you walk around three sides of the facility to get to the gift shop to pay your admission. You may only view the inside on a docent..... more »
It's amazing how many of the great mansions of Milwaukee have been lost to modern convenience. This home almost became a parking lot! It's a fabulous place and the docent was extremely knowledgeable..... more »
We are so glad we toured the mansion while in Milwaukee. It's well worth the time and the tour price is reasonable. We toured on a Sunday and wanted the noon tour since we were heading onto Green Bay that day and didn't want to be delayed. A good tip is to check if the gift shop has opened early to sell tickets. We got there slightly before noon to find out others had bought tickets already. We snagged the last four tickets so it worked out.
The Pabst Mansion is a stunning Flemish revival structure - very ornate with heavy German influence as you would expect from a leading beer family. The tour guides are well-informed and make the tour interesting. Guided tours are on the hour, but what is not clear in advance is that you MUST take a guided tour - you cannot walk through at your own pace. So don't show up at 10 minutes after the hour because you'll be waiting awhile for the next tour. Plan ahead and you will be glad you visited this property. Pabst Mansion makes the family and beer industry culture more understandable than if you only tour a brewery.
