A taste of Europe in Miami, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens once served as the home of businessman James Deering. Begun in 1910, with architecture and gardens modeled on the Mediterranean Revival style, the estate was Deering's winter residence from 1916 until his death in 1925. Today, the museum and gardens attract visitors who are drawn by the villa's collection of antique furniture, tapestries, paintings, and decorative arts. The seaside gardens brim with fountains, sculptures, gazebos, trails, and pools. The estate frequently hosts dignitaries from around the world. • My husband and I enjoyed our 2.5 hrs. exploring this Guilded Age estate and gardens. It’s a fascinating step-back in time to stroll through the indoor and outdoor spaces build with a meticulous...  more »
  • Noted the gardens were in much better condition as compared to a visit two years earlier. Also, nice variation of color versus all green as in prior visit. Still, more work is necessary as some of...  more »
  • Loved it, loved it, loved it! If I'm ever in Miami again, I'd like to spend the whole day, just not in August. This is a December or January city for me. HOT! Young man at entry of house gave great information about the mansion and grounds across the street. I loved the house, gardens, and ocean views! I didn't have time or more energy to go across to farm lands and servants' areas. Wow, this is a must see if you're going to Miami. Loved it!
  • It was so incredibly beautiful! I loved the home and the gardens. Some of the house was covered as they prepare for hurricane Dorian but it was still amazing. They've done a wonderful job of preserving the history and you can really get a feel of what life must have been like for James Deering in such an incredible home. I loved every second I spent there exploring the rooms and the incredible gardens! I would highly recommend to any art or history enthusiasts.
