Explore the impressive collection of pre-20th-century European art that fills the rooms of The Getty Center. Nestled in the hills overlooking Los Angeles, the six-building complex, notable for its new-age architecture and expanse of landscaped gardens, features exhibits of 19th- and 20th-century photographs, sculptures, and paintings. Take your time wandering through the museum’s sculpture garden, or have your picture taken with Van Gogh’s "Irises." Pack a picnic to have in the gardens while taking in a panoramic view of the city. While admission to the center is free, you must pay to park a car. Put The Getty Center at the forefront of your travel plans using our Los Angeles trip itinerary maker site.

The Getty Center reviews

Surprisingly cool, even on hot days. The gardens are one of the best parts. On very clear days, you can walk on the balconies around the building and get views all the way to the ocean. more »

Who knew? Wow, the Getty Center is world class. If you like world class art, you must go! Little Boy Blue suprised me. The painting I had only seen in textbooks was prominently in display... more »

Absolutely gorgeous. This place doesn't feel real. It's so beautiful. It's free for all, has a shuttle to get you there, two cafes and some trolleys for snacks, lovely staff, and it's so well maintained. Adam and I didn't do the audio tour and we quickly went through the exhibits. We found the real glory of this place to be the scenic views. It's amazing how much of LA you are able to see, the gardens are also breathtaking (my favourite is the cactus garden but the sculpture garden is where we got the best view for the sunset). A perfect day of walking and admiring topped off with a gorgeous sunset and a cup of hot chocolate. Definitely something to do on a beautiful day, or a rainy day if you like fancy art paintings and audio tours.

I love this FREE art museum! The architecture, garden, and grounds are beautiful, and that is just the beginning. Once you enter the museum, the amount of spectacular paintings, sculptures, and other art pieces is just amazing! I went here for a birthday trip with friends, and it was perfect. If you have the chance, go! It was such an amazing experience and I can't wait to go back. ♥️🥰
