Battleship USS Iowa Museum, Los Angeles

Tour the ship that carried Franklin Delano Roosevelt across the Atlantic Ocean when you visit Battleship USS Iowa Museum. Learn about its role as the last lead ship of any class of U.S. battleships on the Atlantic during World War II, and view the ship's guns, the officer’s mess, and the captain’s cabin, which served as FDR's quarters when he was on board. Ask the tour guides--who are retired Navy officers--any questions you have. If you're visiting with children, bring them on the complimentary Victory the Dog scavenger hunt--in honor of the ship’s mascot--which is available at the start of the tour. Note that there are no restrooms or food on board, and many obstacles like uneven decking and steep and narrow stairs on the ship make it inaccessible for wheelchairs, strollers, and small children. • Los Angeles is lucky to have a piece of real life history so close and accessible. The Battleship USS Iowa Museum is an incredible hidden gem for those visiting AND residing the Los Angeles area. Located conveniently by the 110 freeway and the Thomas Bridge, the Iowa is a floating museum lovingly restored and cared for by veterans from all age levels and branches of the US military and some private donors. The Iowa served during WWII and beyond before being decommissioned so when you walk up the walkway and step onto its deck you feel not only the history but an immense respect for those that served to protect this country. Chills. The staff are mostly veterans as mentioned and they could not be more friendly. Tickets are affordable and there are plenty of opportunities to donate. If you have little ones please note that it is a battleship and you will have to supervise them AT ALL TIMES. Please if you visit bring all the respect you can muster and if you cannot, just stay home. I love visiting this place and always bring any visiting friends here. Forget Disneyland!
