Bluegrass Distillers is a craft bourbon distillery Lexington, Kentucky. This beautiful and special place on earth in the heart of the Kentucky bluegrass region is both the horse racing capital of the world as well as where the finest bourbon whiskey in the world is made and aged.

Embodying the spirit of championship Kentucky thoroughbred racing, the authentic handmade Bluegrass Distillers craft whiskeys and bourbons are distilled with excellence, evoking the timeless tradition, class, coupled with robust flavors with each sip.

Our recipes are formulated in house and each batch hand crafted with local and locally sourced Kentucky Proud ingredients. Following distillation, our spirits are aged to perfection right here in our new custom made charred white oak barrels.

We invite you to a tasting of our unique small batch spirits as well as to check out a fascinating tour next time you are in downtown Lexington.

With less than 10% of bourbon brands being mashed and distilled at their own distillery, it seems farfetched for these to use the term “craft” or “handmade” for their whiskey and bourbon products.

For the last 4 years since Bluegrass Distillers was born, the rigor of creating, tweaking, and innovating our recipes, methods, and the actual task of making mash, fermenting, and distillation has been arduous. It quickly became obvious why the vast majority of others in the industry prefer the much easier way of buying product from another large distillery and simply bottling with a new name and brand just to have a product to sell immediately. The Bluegrass Distillers journey has been a long one requiring much patience. However, our special group is very proud that every aspect of our product from the blending of ingredients, mashing, fermentation, distillation in our 250 gallon copper still, bottling, and even labelling is done in our own distillery by the hands of the Bluegrass Distillers dedicated team.

We are very proud of our product and we are confident that once you taste our bourbon and tour our distillery you will understand why.

  • Loved our tour guide and the fact we tasted before he started the informational stuff. Got to taste the mash which makes this a bit different than all the others we did that day.

  • Nice small distillery and very informative. It was in a decent area and felt very family like. The tasting was good and they had some special options for a unique souvenir. Well worth the money...

  • This was my husband and I first time visiting a distillery. We had a grand-o-time. Our tour guide guy was very informative, personable, and funny. We had a great group which made the experience even better. Three shots in, me, my husband, and the family next to us shared some good laughs throughout the 47 min tour. We purchased a couple of t-shirts and a bottle from the quaint gift shop at the end of tour. Friendly staff. We look forward to returning next year once they move.
  • This was a great distillery to visit while touring the Kentucky bourbon trail. If you really like the science of whiskey you’ll love those your specifically. Our guide (dude with long hair) was extremely sciencey and got into all the details of how whiskey is made. Other tours focus on history but this one is great if you want to ask detailed questions about how it works. Whiskey is good, especially the rye. And the $6 bloody Mary’s were fantastic.
