Golden Nugget Lake Charles is the fifth Golden Nugget property, joining the original location in Downtown Las Vegas, and others in Laughlin, Nevada; Atlantic City, New Jersey and Biloxi, Mississippi.
Pinnacle Entertainment announced plans in 2006 to build Sugarcane Bay, a $350-million casino resort, next to its L'Auberge du Lac casino in Lake Charles. The plan was canceled in 2010, and Pinnacle returned the gaming license to the state.
In February 2011, the license was awarded to Creative Casinos LLC, the company of former Pinnacle chairman Dan Lee, for a $400-million casino named Mojito Pointe to be built on the Sugarcane Bay site.
Ameristar Casinos purchased Creative Casinos in June 2012 for $32.5 million, after Lee had difficulty financing construction. The project was renamed as Ameristar Lake Charles.

Rooms are way over priced. Had dinner at Landry’s and it totally sucked. I would have rather have a TV dinner. Now for the casino- terrible selection of machines, chain smoking and no winners... more »

We had to change rooms 3 times. We reserved a room with a balcony, and when we got to the room, the "balcony" only extended maybe a foot. Definitely not enough room to actually stand on and use. The second room smelled like cigarette smoke, in a non smoking facility. So they upgraded us to a different room, which was extremely nice. But, we go to take a shower and no hot water. Called to the desk, and they then inform us for that night NOBODY had hot water due to work being done on the hot water tanks. Otherwise the casino is nice and very clean. The bed was comfortable.

We Love Love 💘 Love it here always a nice get away for a day or weekend! Meeting new people and having good food the gambling I'm not that but for those who like to drop a few thousands 🙃 well that's your Spot! I enjoy getting away from work and life!! Something you just gotta step away!!
