King Kamehameha Statue, Honolulu

#47 of 510 in Things to do in Honolulu
Monument · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
One of Oahu's most photographed landmarks, King Kamehameha Statue represents the Hawaiian warrior king, great diplomat, and leader who united Hawaiian Islands in 1810 after years of conflict. Sculpted by American artist Thomas Gould, this 5.5 m (18 ft) bronze outdoor sculpture is the most recognized of the four statues commissioned to honor Hawaii's first monarch. Notice the four bas-relief panels on the statue's plinth depicting the scenes from the king's life and his accomplishments. Draped in long lei, the statue features a prominent role in the annual Hawaiian holiday meant to honor the king.
