Waves crash along the rocky shore at Wai'anapanapa State Park, home to a multitude of freshwater pools and streams in addition to lush Hawaiian vegetation. You can find the park at the end of a road of the same name, just off of Maui's famous Hana Highway. Explore its rocks, formations, and tubes created over thousands of years of geological activity, as well as the nearby blowholes that can blast sea water high into the air. The black sand beach harkens to the area's volcanic heritage, and you can admire and even dip your feet into the blue waters of the Pacific. Keep your eyes open for some of the island's population of nesting seabirds that frequent the park and the surrounding landscape. If you'd like to plan an extended stay, check out the park's camping facilities. • Loved the park!! It’s so beautiful with a black sand beach. There’s lot of available hiking around on the lava rocks. The beach is so pretty and it’s a small bay so you can swim. I did a hike on both sides of the beach. It was definitely amazing and it’s free! It was a super clean and well kept park. There were bathrooms up above the beach. Highly recommend a stop!
  • We stayed here at their cabins and had a great time. It was so nice being able to get up early and have the beach to ourselves. There’s a lot of fun little things to see here too like a lava arch, sea cave, and hiking. The beach is great for swimming. They do have camping here but it’s currently closed. Park closes at 6pm.
