Take a 16.6 km (10.3 mi) walk on one of the longest continuous sidewalks in the world, The Seawall. It was built to protect the city from the destructive power of waves. On this 5.2 m (17 ft) high wall, you'll see long stretches of murals that depict underwater life painted by children. You'll encounter a number of statues and historical markers throughout the site. The sidewalk is wide and suitable for jogging and cycling. You'll see shops and restaurants along the wall as well. My sister and I loved Galveston! We loved riding the ferry and we found a place on the beach that we could drive down to without paying parking and entrance fees. My sister especially enjoyed gathering seashells for a wind chime.
