Fort Worth Zoo was founded in 1909 with just a handful of animals, making it the oldest zoo in Texas. Today the zoo has been ranked as the fifth best in the country by USA Travel Guide and is home to almost 7,000 animals. You can discover an array of exotic creatures, such as penguins, Asian elephants, chimpanzees, poison dart frogs, and parrots, as well as see an extensive collection of native Texan species. To view aquatic animals, visit the Great Barrier Reef exhibit. The zoo features a number of rides and activities, including a carousel, rock-climbing tower, and hurricane and tornado simulators. The Forth Worth Zoo is by far the best place we have visited in the Dallas area! We went on a Wednesday afternoon and it was not crowded. We were able to walk to all the exhibits even in the heat and see All the animals. They have different Entertainment and question/answers throughout the day. The Zoo employees are knowledgeable, polite and very nice. We enjoyed the Giraffe experience the most since we were able to feed the giraffe and have it close to us.

We visited Fort Worth Zoo on a pleasant day after driving 40 miles and it was well worth the drive and fee. It is a Texas themed zoo with all kinds of animals, birds and reptiles. There were flamingos in different colors. We will definitely visit again when elephant center is completely renovated. It was full of greenery and has many restaurants on the track. I'd recommend to be there by the opening hour to avoid crowd and get a closer parking spot.
