Fox Theatre, Detroit

4.5
The Fox Theatre is a performing arts center located at 2211 Woodward Avenue in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, near the Grand Circus Park Historic District. Opened in 1928 as a flagship movie palace in the Fox Theatres chain, it was at over 5,000 seats the largest theater in the city. Designed by theater architect C. Howard Crane, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989 for its architecture. The area surrounding the Fox is nicknamed Foxtown. The city's major performance centers and theatres emanate from the Fox Theatre and Grand Circus Park Historic District and continue along Woodward Avenue toward the Fisher Theatre in the city's New Center.
The Fox has 5,048 seats (5,174 seats if removable seats placed in the raised orchestra pit are included). It is the largest surviving movie palace of the 1920s and the largest of the original Fox Theatres. The Fox was fully restored in 1988. The adjacent office building houses the headquarters of Olympia Entertainment and Little Caesars.

  • I love this theatre. It's old and beautiful. It's a great venue for pretty much any performance. I typically come here for concerts and I just love it. While it's old, it still has a great style. It is clean and the staff is always friendly. The seats are fairly comfortable, especially for a couple hours. I've sat pretty much everywhere and there isn't really a bad seat. This is an iconic, beautiful theatre.
  • The Fox Theatre is one of the most beautiful venues in the area and is rich with history. I took my 4 year old son to see Paw Patrol Live and we had a blast!! The venue is not huge so there really isn't a bad seat in the house for viewing what was going on up on stage. The parking garage was conveniently located right next door so we didn't have to walk very far in busy downtown Detroit. Inside was quite secure with everyone needing to wall through a metal detector so it gave me more of a peace of mind during the show. The staff at the theater were very friendly and helped us locate our seats very easily. There were plenty of them around to ask for directions for things like snacks and restrooms as well!! Speaking of restrooms, they are located one floor down with men's on one side of the building and woman's on the other. Much larger than expected so there were never any crowds or waiting at all before, during or after the show. The theater has amazing architecture that I guarantee you will you will not find anywhere else. Overall, I highly recommend attend one of the many events held here. You will not be disappointed!!!
