With its gold-plated dome and elegant design, Colorado State Capitol is one of the stunners in the Denver skyline. Inside the building constructed from white Colorado granite, stained-glass windows tell the stories of the state's past. The gold on the dome symbolizes the Colorado Gold Rush. Head inside to see marble that's found only in Colorado, such as White Yule and Colorado Rose Onyx. The western steps bear the mile-high signs that mark the city's elevation. A tour of the building takes you through the state chambers and allows you admire the architecture, learn about the history of Colorado, and enjoy the view of the city and the Rocky Mountains from the observation area on the dome. Tours are free, but reserve your spot at least two weeks in advance due to limited space and high demand. Colorado State Capitol Reviews
OK, we did do the pictures outside on the mile high step, I admit it! The inside of the capitol is quite lovely, and our guided tour was fascinating. We saw the House in session from the balcony as.... more »
Didn't take the full tour. Went in on a brief grayline tour stop. Glad we did, just right for us. Beautiful brass, granite and murals. more »
I recommend the free tour of the Colorado State Capital at Denver. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and showed us a lot of interesting places in the building. It’s a pretty building with an interesting history and worth the visit. For an older Capitol, it was fairly state-of-the-art. Loved viewing the senate and house chambers and looking at all Presidential portraits from Washington to Trump. Not ADA updated.
If I visit a state capital city I always like to visit it capitol. Colorado does not disappoint with its gold encrusted dome. Also, the grounds are nice for walking or jogging. There are cannons and statues as well. Easy on the eyes.
