The lowest point in North America, 86 m (282 ft) below sea level, Badwater Basin is a huge, desolate salt flat. Look up to see a sign marking sea level high above you on the side of a cliff. Bring plenty of water with you, and limit your time in the sun during midday. • I guess this is THE place to be when in Death Valley. It was not crowded at all when we were there early December in our RV and there was plenty of spacious parking. This is our second time here but.....  more »
  • Nearly 300 ft. below sea level! Views for MILES! It'll be a quick stop, but a must see. Stay on the SALT path, and wear good shoes!  more »

  • I can't even start to describe how hot it was on our visit... it was 108 deg F with not even a whisper of a breeze. You can walk out onto what looks like a salt bed , small holes have been dug that fill with water so there is moisture under the surface but must be Bad Water. Well worth a visit and mo hesitation in recommending.
  • Breathtakingly beautiful with an intensity of heat like no other place! The salt flats are an extremely fragile eco system so do look after it while you're there - stick to the walkways and don't throw litter.
