We went on a Tuesday to fill some time. It want really what I expected. There are about 20 buildings, but many you cannot go inside. I expected people dressed in period clothing, but this was but... more »
Highly recommend. Bought groupon for 4 and there were guides in some of the buildings. It was an overcast day and very few visitors. Remember schools come there so be careful. Covers 1840 to 1899.... more »
We’ve lived in Dallas for five years and didn’t visit the village until my sister and niece were in town. I admit that I didn’t realize what an interesting place this is. There is a large number of buildings and exhibits, many of which one can go inside. The volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable and showed great patience answering my nine year old niece’s many questions. My niece got to feed the chickens, and grind corn which she fed to the sheep. She also helped to chop wood! We actually ran out of time as the village was closing, but we will definitely go back to see the rest of the exhibits. Please go and support this worthy cause - so much of the local history has been lost, and this place captures a time long gone.
This is an amazing area of Dallas adjacent to the former Ambassador Hotel (the location of many former Presidents that had visited this location, and it was largely abandoned in the 1980's, intending to be restored to it's former glory) which burned down recently. Within the park exists many glimpses into a life that was very different from today, and a history that exists and is encouraged to be preserved. The $10 entry fee is well worth preserving history, and this site can also be used for wedding events and other catering. Four Corners Brewery opens up after this place closes at 4 pm, and it's not far from downtown Dallas. Some amazing homes are present with some pioneers of industry (a 1880's home is likely the first to have central plumbing with an original bathroom from that time, and had a recent roof flooding that costs upwards of $200k to restore.) Just ask for the amazing crew, Gene and Peggy, whom are helping keep this site alive and constantly improving to maintain it's preservation of history. Literally it's like walking back in time and it reflects some ancestry that I've seen remnants of in the east coast that are rare glimpses into this pre-1900's era.
