Shedd Aquarium contains over 1,500 different species, including fish, marine mammals, birds, snakes, amphibians, and insects. Opened in 1930, this venue was the first inland aquarium with a permanent saltwater fish collection. Located within walking distance of the city's natural history museum and planetarium, the aquarium draws over 2 million annual visitors. Highlights include an oceanarium designed to replicate the natural conditions of the waters off the northwestern coast of the U.S., containing beluga whales, white-sided dolphins, sea otters, and seals. You can also visit the shark exhibit, a replica of a Philippines reef ecosystem. Exhibits often sell out early in the morning, so ensure your entry by purchasing your tickets well in advance. • Overall I enjoyed the experience. Very nice displays of sea life. However, beware, there are a lot of stairs along with some ramps. Elevators small for accommodating strollers and passengers. Masks not mandatory for vaccinated but no process in place for checking to verify. I wore my mask the entire time. The food court was very crowded with one line. Food staff did an excellent job trying to keep up. At this time not enough staff. Also, no gluten free items readily available on the grill menu. The line leader kindly requested a cheeseburger for me ,without bun, and indicated to workers it was an allergy. Burger was very good! He was very kind to do this since he and others were very very busy taking care of others.
  • Amazing sea animals! Great for kids and adults. The beluga whales were so fun. It was feeding time when we were there and they did lots of cute tricks! Great tourist spot! We were able to see the entire aquarium in about two hours.
