Oriental Institute Museum presents its collection of artifacts from the ancient Middle East to the public on the University of Chicago's campus. Many of the artifacts on display continue to be studied by anthropologists at the university, so don't be surprised if you see a scientist scrutinizing an exhibit beside you. University archeologists unearthed some of the finds displayed here. Exhibits range from mammoth chunks of buildings to artwork and textiles. All donated admission money goes toward research and museum upkeep. Oriental Institute Museum Reviews
That's what you'll find here. Artifacts from when humans first formed societies, cities and cultures. The beginning of writing, legal systems, and religions that still echo today.. A donation-only.... more »
A most amazing middle eastern collection for a donation admission. A smaller museum but i like it more than the Peabody at Yale on the University of Chicago campus more »
A nice place for families with kids and friends to visit, many unique things to see, you have to be prepared for this because it may takes you about 3 hours to see everything, if all sites are open for public. Try to visit during the week days in summer or so you can park easily close by.
A tucked away jewel at the University of Chicago. Full of the most amazing artifacts of the most ancient civilizations known to humans. Its free and an amazing place to spend time, contemplate and enjoy your "being" ! The museum is such an exclusive experience that it is a must place to take friends and family when they visit me in Chicago.
