Oriental Institute Museum presents its collection of artifacts from the ancient Middle East to the public on the University of Chicago's campus. Many of the artifacts on display continue to be studied by anthropologists at the university, so don't be surprised if you see a scientist scrutinizing an exhibit beside you. University archeologists unearthed some of the finds displayed here. Exhibits range from mammoth chunks of buildings to artwork and textiles. All donated admission money goes toward research and museum upkeep. • This was awesome. It’s not a large museum at all. Quite small actually. But each piece has a narrative. You have to start with the first window, read the description, then move on to the next. Read...

  • Has very interesting items, specially the Lamassu, Babylonian lions…As well as the Egyptian & Persian sections. Admission is FREE it’s recommended to donate $10 per visitor, though. The grounds are beautiful as it within the university of Chicago - Hyde Park. Some nice restaurants in the area within walking distance. Parking is free.
  • Awesome amount of interesting pieces from different ages and cultures of the world, nice gift shop, helpful friendly staff. Exceptional museum experience,an under appreciated spot among a city with a great number of better known venues.
