Portland Head Light, Cape Elizabeth

Must see · Lighthouse · Tourist Spot
Completed in 1791, Portland Head Light is the oldest lighthouse in Maine. Standing 31 m (101 ft) tall, made of rubble stone and bricks on a rocky shoreline, it is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the United States. Stop by its museum where you'll see lighthouse lenses and interpretative displays, and check out the shop that has fine and quirky lighthouse-related souvenirs. The surrounding 90-acre park offers ocean views, picnic areas, and walking paths, as well as recreational areas for children and adults. • Absolutely gorgeous pop off the main roads to enjoy some of the ocean views. Beautiful panorama of the coast from here! Nice little museum attached to the light house with lots of great information. Only $2 for a walk through, so I highly recommend that! Gift shop is tiny and cute... wish there had been more local art and gifts rather than touristy stuff. Great areas around to picnic and grab food from food trucks! Wish we had brought our lunch so we could have relaxed outside a bit more. All together, a great place to stop!
  • The light house is really beautiful. I took many pictures there and can easily use them as postcards. There's plenty of parking there and there are two food trucks serving lobster rolls! One of them has the famous Taste of Maine name. I tried the regular lobster roll and it's good. They have 6 different flavors. I'm sure you can find one you like.
