The Foundling Museum in Brunswick Square, London tells the story of the Foundling Hospital, Britain's first home for children at risk of abandonment. The museum houses the nationally important Foundling Hospital Collection as well as the Gerald Coke Handel Collection, an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries. After a major building refurbishment the museum opened to the public in June 2004.
The museum explores the history of the Foundling Hospital, which continues today as the children's charity Coram.. Artists such as William Hogarth and the composer George Frideric Handel are central to the Hospital story and today the museum celebrates the ways in which creative people have helped improve children's lives for over 275 years. It is a member of The London Museums of Health & Medicine group.

The Foundling Museum Reviews
I had heard good things about this museum, particularly about the workshops for children. We visited during half-term, as we saw a great session for kids, so I suspect it was busier than usual, but... more »
I went with my local U3A group on the wettest day possible, which does colour my review. Visitors need to be aware that the building is not the original Foundling Hospital, but a elegant 1930’s... more »
We had a lovely time at the Foundling Museum. The ground floor tells of the lives of Foundlings and there is a Hetty Feather trail that our 10 year old enjoyed. Heartwarming and heartbreaking display of tokens too. Artefacts, paintings and dressing up on the first floor. Here we met a really lovely man called Robin who worked there who gave us lots of information and made our visit really special. He was extra kind and chatty with our daughter and answered all her questions. Third floor was a room dedicated to Handel with big armchairs where you could play a choice of his music. The basement is a special exhibition space that changes. All in all it was great for an hour and a half and we all enjoyed it.
A hidden gem that everyone should be going too. I feel like this museum could have been twice as large since there was so much to learn about the history of the foundation. The foundling tokens alone could be there own museum. I left feeling like there was so much more I could have learned. I regard not buying one of the book in the gift shop.
