Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Your day by day itinerary now includes La Placita de Santurce as well as Aventuras Tierra Adentro, Inc.. Start off your visit on the 8th (Fri): steep yourself in history at Sitio Histórico de San Juan and then get to know the fascinating history of Old San Juan. With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Kick off your visit on the 10th (Sun): kick back and relax at Playa Tamarindo.

Fajardo is a small city and municipality in Puerto Rico (U.S.) located in the east region of the island, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, north of Ceiba and east of Luquillo. Start off your visit on the 12th (Tue): whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, then kick back and relax at Playa Luquillo, and then discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

You can ride a ferry from Culebra to Fajardo in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of flight and taxi; or do a combination of ferry and car. In May, plan for daily highs up to 85°F, and evening lows to 76°F. You will have some time to spend on the 13th (Wed) before leaving for Isla de Vieques.

Isla Nena

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
On the 13th (Wed), kick back and relax at Playa La Chiva and then kick back and relax at Playa Pata Prieta. Here are some ideas for day two: contemplate the long history of Isabel Segunda, get engrossed in the history at Museo El Fortin de Conde Mirasol, then explore the ancient world of El Hombre de Puerto Ferro, then make a trip to Puerto Ferro Lighthouse, and finally stroll through Playa Caracas.
