Palenque — 3 nights

Palenque remains best known for the nearby ruins of an ancient Mayan city, which probably flourished around the 7th century CE. The World Heritage-listed remnants of this settlement seem little changed by the passage of time and represent one of Mexico's finest examples of Mayan architecture.
Palenque is known for nature, historic sites, and parks. Your trip includes some of its best attractions: don't miss a visit to Zona Arqueologica de Palenque, take in the dramatic scenery at Cascada de Roberto Barrios, stroll through Aluxes Palenque, and relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour.

Quickly create a custom-made itinerary for Palenque using our trip planner.

Midland, USA to Palenque is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Tue) so you can fly to Oaxaca.

Oaxaca — 4 nights

Capital city of the eponymous state, Oaxaca relies heavily on its colonial charm, its core a maze of tree-shaded alleys flanked by photogenic mansions, government buildings, and old churches.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Oaxaca: Mezcaleria Sabor a Mitla (in San Pablo Villa de Mitla) and Gracias a Dios Mezcal (in Santiago Matatlan). There's much more to do: pause for some serene contemplation at Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman, delve into the distant past at Zona Arqueologica de Monte Alban, make a trip to Hierve el Agua, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilica de Nuestra Senora de la Soledad.
