One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Seoul: DMZ Haemaru Village (in Paju), Icheon Termeden (in Icheon) and Suwon (Hwaseong Fortress & Dongbukgongsimdon). The capital of the country's northernmost province, the city of Chuncheon acts a gateway to the wilder sights of the rural region.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Chuncheon: Jeongseon 5-day Market (in Jeongseon-gun), Pyeongchang-gun (Daegwallyeong Agi Mokjang, Lee Hyo-seok Memorial Hall, &more) and Guryongsa Temple (in Wonju). The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
Change things up with a short trip to Oedo Botania in Geoje (about 1h 45 min away).
