As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing stands at the heart of Chinese history, buzzing with the energy of its high population density and centuries of importance.
On the 28th (Fri), see Mutianyu Great Wall. On the next day, get engrossed in the history at The Palace Museum, then get engrossed in the history at Lama Temple (Yonghegong), and then find something for the whole family at Olympic Park.

Historians often describe Xi'an, capital city for over a dozen dynasties, as the birthplace of Chinese civilization.
Start off your visit on the 30th (Sun): don't miss a visit to Kaiyuan Square.

With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.
On the 1st (Tue), take in nature's colorful creations at Yu Garden (Yuyuan), take in the pleasant sights at The Bund (Wai Tan), then take in panoramic vistas at Shanghai World Financial Center, then take in panoramic vistas at Oriental Pearl Tower (Dongfang Mingzhu), and finally admire the striking features of 1933 Old Millfun.

You can fly from Xi'an to Shanghai in 4 hours. Other options are to take a train; or drive. Traveling from Xi'an in August, expect a bit warmer with lows of 30°C in Shanghai. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Tue) early enough to catch the flight back home.
