Yellow Rose of Texas

Known as "The Yellow Rose of Texas," Amarillo was once a series of ranches.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Amarillo: Palo Duro Canyon State Park (in Canyon), The Charles and Mary Ann Goodnight Ranch State Historical Site (in Goodnight) and Lubbock (National Ranching Heritage Center & The Buddy Holly Center). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at Jack Sisemore Traveland RV Museum, get engrossed in the history at Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, take in nature's colorful creations at Amarillo Botanical Gardens, and get a taste of life in the country at Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West.

To find photos, reviews, where to stay, and tourist information, go to the Amarillo trip site.

In May, daily temperatures in Amarillo can reach 79°F, while at night they dip to 50°F.
