Founded in 1701 by a French explorer and adventurer, Detroit exerted a profound impact on the world for most of the 20th century.

Take a break from Detroit with a short trip to Decode Ann Arbor in Ann Arbor, about 52 minutes away. There's much more to do: explore the world behind art at Detroit Institute of Arts, examine the collection at Greenfield Village, shop like a local with Eastern Market, and step off the mainland to explore Belle Isle Park.
