Land of the Sky

Asheville nestles between two major mountain ranges in the scenic western section of North Carolina.
Change things up with these side-trips from Asheville: Mount LeConte (in Great Smoky Mountains National Park) and Sugarlands Distilling Company (in Gatlinburg). There's much more to do: savor the flavors at Food & Drink, take a memorable drive along Blue Ridge Pkwy, look for all kinds of wild species at Tumblestone Tours and Transportation, and pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica of Saint Lawrence.

Richmond to Asheville is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. In September, daily temperatures in Asheville can reach 79°F, while at night they dip to 59°F. On the 6th (Mon), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can fly back home.
