On the 4th (Sat), steep yourself in history at Golden Gate Bridge, then take in the waterfront at Fisherman's Wharf, then step off the mainland to explore Alcatraz Island, and finally wander the streets of Union Square.

A sea of casinos in the high desert of the Sierra Nevadas, Reno capitalizes on gaming and nightlife.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Sun): tour the pleasant surroundings at Stateline Lookout, let the kids burn off some steam at Commons Beach Park, then kick back and relax at Sand Harbor, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Secret Cove Beach. On the next day, play a few rounds at Northstar Ski Resort, then kick back and relax at West End Beach, then let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour, and finally hike along Tompkins Memorial Trail.

Fly from San Francisco to Reno in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from San Francisco in July, you will find days in Reno are much warmer (95°F), and nights are about the same (62°F). Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Mon) so you can travel back home.
