Emerald City

Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Get out of town with these interesting Seattle side-trips: Tacoma (Tacoma Art Museum, Washington State History Museum, &more), Discover Nature (in Mount Rainier National Park) and Heritage Distilling Co. HDC Waterfront (in Gig Harbor). Dedicate the 7th (Wed) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's still lots to do: explore the world behind art at Chihuly Garden and Glass, take a stroll through Pike Place Market, see the interesting displays at Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture, and take in nature's colorful creations at Bellevue Botanical Garden.

On the 23rd (Fri), head off the coast to Alcatraz Island, take a leisurely stroll along Fisherman's Wharf, and then snap pictures at Golden Gate Bridge. On the 24th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: browse the eclectic array of goods at Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, then buy something for everyone on your list at Ferry Building Marketplace, then get curious at Exploratorium, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Filbert Street Stairs.
