Step out of Leon to go to Las Penitas and see Juan Venado Island Nature Reserve, which is approximately 38 minutes away. There's much more to do: get impressive views of Cerro Negro Volcano, see the interesting displays at Museo de la Revolucion, glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and get the adrenaline pumping with an extreme tour.
