Gateway to the Highlands

Inverness, often described as the Gateway to the Highlands, is a thriving commercial and industrial center.
When in Inverness, make a side trip to see Aigas Field Centre in Beauly, approximately Beauly away. There's lots more to do: gain some tasty knowledge on a distillery tour, stroll around Ness Islands, explore the wealth of natural beauty at Cairngorms National Park, and get your game on at Wildwoodz.

Chattanooga, USA to Inverness is an approximately 17-hour combination of bus and flight. You can also fly. The time zone difference when traveling from Chattanooga to Inverness is 5 hours. Prepare for much colder weather when traveling from Chattanooga in July: high temperatures in Inverness hover around 66°F and lows are around 50°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 10th (Fri) early enough to go by car to Durness.

Durness is a village and civil parish in the north-west Highlands of Scotland. Kick off your visit on the 11th (Sat): kick back and relax at Sandwood Bay Beach, then view the masterpieces at Mudness Ceramics, then kick back and relax at Sango Bay, and finally tour the pleasant surroundings at Durness Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: head off the coast to Handa Island Wildlife Reserve and then stroll through Balnakeil Beach.

Traveling by car from Inverness to Durness takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. In July, daily temperatures in Durness can reach 64°F, while at night they dip to 50°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Thurso.

Thurso is a town and former burgh on the north coast of the Highland council area of Scotland.
Kick off your visit on the 13th (Mon): brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Dunnet Bay Distillery, then get great views at Duncansby Head, then get engrossed in the history at Wick Heritage Museum, and finally take a tour of Caithness Seacoast Ltd. On the 14th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take some stellar pictures from Dunnet Head, explore the historical opulence of Queen Elizabeth Castle of Mey Trust, and then step into the grandiose world of Castle Sinclair Girnigoe.

You can drive from Durness to Thurso in 2 hours. In July in Thurso, expect temperatures between 61°F during the day and 49°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Tue) so you can travel to Fort William.

Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. Change things up with these side-trips from Fort William: Morar Beach (in Morar), Camusdarach Beach (in Arisaig) and Glenfinnan Viaduct (in Glenfinnan). And it doesn't end there: appreciate the views at Glen Coe, pause for some photo ops at Peace Memorial, take an in-depth tour of Glencoe Folk Museum, and take in the dramatic scenery at Steall Waterfall.
