Bride of Xolotlan

Nicaragua's largest and capital city, Managua remains relatively unknown as a tourist destination, though it boasts a scenic location on the southwestern shore of the Xolotlan Lake.
Venture out of the city with trips to Apoyo (in La Laguna de Apoyo), Masaya Volcano (in Masaya) and Granada (Parque Xalteva, Palacio Episcopal, &more). There's much more to do: don't miss a visit to Puerto Salvador Allende, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Santiago of Managua Cathedral, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mezquita De Managua.

A cultured and storied city, Leon attracts guests from all over the world, drawn to the second city's style, thriving intellectual life, and liveliness.
Step out of Leon with an excursion to Juan Venado Island Nature Reserve in Las Penitas--about 38 minutes away. There's still lots to do: get impressive views of Cerro Negro Volcano, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church The Recollection, see the interesting displays at Museo de Arte Fundacion Ortiz-Gurdian, and stop by Artesania de Leon.

Traveling by car from Managua to Leon takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In December, daily temperatures in Leon can reach 38°C, while at night they dip to 26°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Tue) so you can take a bus to Isla de Ometepe.

Isla de Ometepe may be small in size, but it boasts two large volcanoes that dominate its landscape and influence the local lifestyle.

There's lots more to do: step off the mainland to explore Isla Ometepe, get in on the family fun at Chico Largo Adventure, admire the sheer force of Cascada de San Ramon, and ponder the design of Ojo de Agua.
