With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.

Beijing

As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing stands at the heart of Chinese history, buzzing with the energy of its high population density and centuries of importance.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Mutianyu Great Wall and Meridian Gate (Wu Men). Step off the beaten path and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and 798 Art Zone. There's still lots to do: appreciate the extensive heritage of Summer Palace (Yiheyuan), take a stroll through Back Lakes (Hou Hai), get great views at Jingshan Park (Jingshan Gongyuan), and pause for some photo ops at Tiananmen Square (Tiananmen Guangchang).

You can fly from Shanghai to Beijing in 4 hours. Other options are to take a train; or drive. Traveling from Shanghai in June, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be slightly colder in Beijing, with lows of 21°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 7th (Mon) early enough to catch the flight to Xi'an.

Xi'an

Birthplace of Chinese Civilization

Historians often describe Xi'an, capital city for over a dozen dynasties, as the birthplace of Chinese civilization.
Get some historical perspective at Xi'an Bell Tower and Xi'an Mosque. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Travel China Guide and Shaanxi History Museum. Getting from Beijing to Xi'an by flight takes about 4 hours. Other options: fly; or take a train; or drive. In June, daily temperatures in Xi'an can reach 36°C, while at night they dip to 21°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Thu) to allow enough time to fly to Chengdu.

The home of giant pandas for more than two million years, Chengdu's vast human history cowers in comparison to the natural heritage of the area.
Start off your visit on the 11th (Fri): surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour. Here are some ideas for day two: get to know the fascinating history of Jinli Pedestrian Street, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Wenshu Yuan Monastery, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Giant Panda Breeding Research Base (Xiongmao Jidi).
