The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Get some cultural insight at Antietam National Battlefield and National Gallery of Art. Take a break from the city and head to Tidal Basin and Old Rag Mountain Hike. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Washington DC: R.H. Ballard Shop & Gallery (in Washington), Mount Vernon Trail (in Arlington) and Inside Ski Training Center (in Leesburg). There's still lots to do: get engrossed in the history at United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, contemplate the long history of Audubon Naturalist Society Woodend Sanctuary, examine the collection at The National Archives Museum, and pause for some photo ops at Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
