See a historic collection of Mexican folk art at Museo Rafael Coronel. Collected by the Zacatecan artist Rafael Coronel, the pieces are housed in the ruins of the 16th-century Ex-Convento de San Francisco. The building features high beige stone walls and displays elegantly decorated courtyards throughout its interior. Inside, observe more than 16,000 art pieces, including masks, drawings, pots, puppets, musical instruments, and colonial furniture. His collection of masks as "The Face of Mexico" stands as the main exhibit and is considered the largest in the world. This is a truly unique place. Built in what remains of an antique convent, you can explore a wide collection of masks, used in rituals, dances and traditions from different times and from all over..... more »

Very interesting collection, but as I said be prepared to change through several galaxies. They mixed so many different things it was hard to enjoy more. You start with some Nepal and far east items..... more »

If you come to Zacatecas, you should visit this museum, Rafael Coronel was brother to Pedro Coronel, and although the main attraction of this museum are the mask collection, there’s still plenty of other collections to see. It used to be a seventh teen century convent by Franciscan monks and its been restore bit by bit. There’s a collection of Diego’s Rivera incursion into arquitecture, several blue print of Anahuacalli house ( where he store his personal prehispanic art collection). Ruth Rivera was wife of Rafael Coronel that’s why they held several things from Diego Rivera. They also have a mexican poppet collection. Industry which has entirely disapear. They also have several pieces from India that Rafael collected in his life. Visit it!! It wont disappoint!!

This museum is a beautiful place to visit. We hired one of the guides through happy coincidence, and could not have had a better visit. JOEL was professional, knowledgeable, and completely enjoyable to pass our time with. I would happily visit this picturesque museum again and gladly hire the same guide. Not only do you get to visit a historical site, see the city from a beautiful point of view, but the artwork (not just the mask exhibits) are unrivaled. Don't miss Diego Rivera's work.
