Peruse the shops at Mercado 28, a traditional-type Mexican market that visitors use to hunt for souvenirs and knick-knacks. Take advantage of the area's outdoor restaurants and coffee shops to participate in the bustling local atmosphere. If you find something you like, don't be afraid to barter for a price you are comfortable with. Keep in mind that most of the shops do not accept credit or debit card transactions, however, there are many banks and ATMs in the surrounding area. What a fun spot to stop by. Most vendors sell the same types of touristy merchandise, so don't be surprised if you wander into a stall and 10 minutes later see the exact same things at another. We didn't stop at a restaurant, but the smells when we walked by had us hungry by the time we left Everyone is willing to haggle on most things, and most stalls also offer free samples of tequila. If you take a taxi here I would recommend asking them to hang out and wait for you to come back, but if you don't one of the parking lots had a line of taxis waiting to take you back. Just make sure you agree on a price BEFORE you get in a new taxi.
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The employee from Guatemala, was extremely helpful; he recommended a few fruit flavored tequilas; he gave us samples. We liked the coconut, plantain and almond tequilas. There's also a friendly and helpful guy in the store (didn't get his name). He was very patient and made good recommendations with the souvenirs. It was a very hot day and he offered something to drink, which we gladly accepted. We went back looking for him on 4/7, but unfortunately he was involved in a motorcycle accident.
