Vatican Necropolis, commonly referred to as the Scavi, lies under Vatican City, some 5 to 12 m (16 to 39 ft) below Saint Peter’s Basilica. The tombs and mausoleums, early depictions of Christ, and St. Peter’s grave impress visitors greatly.
