Chiesa di San Pietro, Subiaco

Going up, calmly, through the streets that lead to the Rocca, you will find small forgotten jewels. These include the square with the church of San Pietro which, ruined by the war, was rebuilt between 1949 and 1950. The beautiful bell tower (11th century) in Romanesque style, was saved from bombing and is the only original part.

It is a singular jewel of Romanesque architecture of the sec. XI ending with an octagonal pyramid cusp. The bell tower miraculously remained standing, despite the bombings of 1944 which destroyed the church.
